colon cancer coalition | get your rear in gear 5k

for those of you visiting to view the caregiver tent photos, here is the link:

oh, how this race forced our creative sides and indecisive selves to shine! our role was to be part of the caregiver tent, something new to the event, where we mixed our photography wizardry and caregiving connection all in one. our backdrop evolved from 500 different ideas, until ashley announced to me that my lame long streaming chunks of paper were not going to cut it and that dear elmer and his sticky concoction would work wonders with hundreds of small cuts of paper. all over a shower curtain. layered. everywhere. our poor mother was forced to help, but, voilà, a backdrop! it was a hit for both participants and the pre-tornadic winds and rain.

a special thanks to our bread and pastry donators who were all more than generous with their donations! i now dream of bread loaves and bagels and yes, beet sandwiches. being part of this event surfaced mixed emotions, but mostly it gave us both a feeling of closeness to know the bonding of a community can spread a meaningful and powerful message. colon cancer can be knocked out if detected in its early stages. bringing awareness to every single person is where it starts. an even bigger THANK YOU to our mom and the lemke and ebenhoch families to come out and support us! our hopes are to get an even bigger team formed for next year and to participate in the 5k with friends and family. GO TEAM DON!

FUN FACTOID! in the great state of 10,000 lakes, may 22nd was officially declared “get your rear in gear minnesota day.”
